Yamunotri Dham - Origin of Yamuna River

Share:
Jai Ho Yamuna Maiya , Jai Ho !

We had a discussion at evening with cup of tea in Sankri Village (Har Ki Doon Sequel). Vivek bhai planned and we started our journey to Yamunotri Dham.

Before proceeds, I would like to share which are Char Dham of India. Char Dham are four pilgrimage sites in India where Vaishnavite Hindus believe that visiting these sites helps achieve "Moksha".

India's Char Dham:
1) Badrinath (North India)
2) Dwarka (West India)
3) Jagannath Puri (East India)
4) Rameshwaram (South India)

Uttarakhand's Char Dham:
(Opens on Last week of April, Closes on October End or November Starting)
1) Badrinath (Vishnu Temple)
2) Kedarnath (Shiva Temple)
3) Yamunotri (Yamuna Maiya Temple)
4) Gangotri (Ganga Maiya Temple)

We left the Sankri on 5.30 AM Bus.
Route was Like Sankri-Netwar-Purola-Naugaon.

We dropped at Naugaon because we had to go exactly opposite direction where our Dehradun bus was going. We bought some fruits to fill our empty tummies.

Above photo is taxi stand of Naugaon.
Waited for Bus for 30 minutes and finally we got a bus heading to Yamunotri Dham.
For Naugaon to Yamunotri route is like:
Naugaun-Kisna-Barkot-Shyanachatti-Ranachatti-HanumanChatti-Jankichatti

I recommend if someone directly coming to Yamunotri from Haridwar or Dehradun, can stay at Barkot (Small town with many good accomodations) or someone can directly head to Jankichatti where GMVN guest house is also a great option. But prior booking is required in peak season. Else in off season you can get easily rooms.
Jankichatti is a last motor way for Yamunotri. It is the base for it. We reached there around 2:00 PM.
Note: Mobile ATM available at Jankichatti Bus Stand.

We took hotel room freshen up and had small lunch. It was near 4.00 PM already at that time. We were thinking to go in morning due to full day tiredness and fatigue in legs. But my persistence made Vivek bhai and Samir to join. It was right decision. As we had to attend evening Aarti of Yamunotri around 6.30 PM. We had only 2 hours to reach Temple.
It is 5 km hike by walk from Jankichatti to Yamunotri Temple. It is very well maintained route. Every 500 meter you can see a bench for rest, taps for drinking water, food stalls, tea stalls.
Take small rest and walk with enchanting Jai Yamuna Maiya.

Close view of Temple. Finally We reached to Yamunotri Temple around 6:00 PM before Evening Aarti.
You can take rest or book a hotel near Temple also. Very few Guest House, Dharamshala available.
Continuous hot spring generating near Temple. That is also a miracle. In freezing temperature of Yamuna River water, just next to it hot water coming out from soil. There you can take sacred bath. We attended Aarti and left the temple with inner satisfaction in soul.
Origin of Yamuna River is on the mountain which you can see exactly behind the Temple. Up there almost 1 km with very difficult trek you can reach to Saptrishi Kund which is the origin of Sacred River.

In return journey, very few persons were met in the return route as it was dark night. We recommend every reader to start return journey before 4 PM to avoid darkness as you can be witnessed of wild animals. You can stay near temple for night if sunset. It becomes totally dark, but we had a torch and group of 3 persons that's why we took risk.

Near base we ate dinner at local house. I recommend you to take dinner, lunch at local house instead of any restaurant. Believe me taste was damn delicious and the love in serving was truly lovely. Even they offers stay for night to their homes with very minimum charges. Support them while you go this type of trip. That will spread humanity, love and respect to our Locals of India.

Next day Morning, we left for Dehradun and from Dehradun to Delhi and back to Home.

But one thing I want to tell you all that plan an unplanned journey and you will definitely enjoy the true face of trip. It will give you totally different aspect to living life.

We wish you all the best for your trip.
